Jake Beardsley Wins 2025 Fink Award

Fink award

The Fink Prize is awarded in recognition of an outstanding graduate student essay in philosophy.

Congratulations to Jake Beardsley, winner of this year’s Fink Award for his paper, "Towards a Continuous Reconstruction of the Rules of Impact," which examines Descartes’ mechanics. An honorable mention goes to Jacob MacDavid for his essay, "Deep Self Internalisms about Practical Reasons."

The Fink Committee, chaired by Professor Abe Roth with Professors Stewart Shapiro and Tristram McPherson, noted the overall strength of this year’s submissions, with ten essays making the selection process highly competitive.

Jake and Jacob were recognized during the department’s award ceremony on April 25, 2025.
Congratulations to both, and many thanks to the Fink Committee for their work!
