Department of Philosophy Ombudsperson
The Department has two ombuds available to provide impartial and confidential consultations to members of our community, including instructors, students, postdoctoral scholars, and staff. Ombuds are independent of other departmental officers, and can be approached for confidential discussions as an alternative or a precursor to standard departmental channels of governance and mentorship. Ombuds can help community members think through issues and develop solutions and strategies to resolve problems and conflicts. In some cases, the ombuds mediate and facilitate communication among different parties; and in some cases they serve as a confidential conduit of information. They can also recommend improvements to policies and procedures and identify persistent sources of conflict. Before contacting an ombudsperson, please be aware of cases in which they are mandatory reporters, and so could not keep confidentiality: https://civilrights.osu.edu/sites/default/files/documents/CRCO-Reporter-Guide.pdf .
Currently, the Department ombuds are:
Piers Turner, turner.894@osu.edu
Michelle Brown, brown.930@osu.edu
