Alumni Panel Discussion Helps Students Prepare for Career Decisions
On October 15, philosophy alumni from different generations and professions returned to the department to meet with students at the Gluck library. Benjamin Flowers (’09) currently serves as the Solicitor General for the State of Ohio. Dana Bernstein (‘07) is a graphic designer and yoga teacher. Scott Merrill (’97) is a staff engineer. Frank Wang (’19) works as a product analyst. The alumni discussed the ways in which the study of philosophy impacted their career paths and offered ideas about what student considerations and priorities should be during this critical period in their professional lives. Student attendees benefited from the visitors’ suggestions about applying and interviewing for jobs, as well as broader insights on life after graduation. An informal discussion followed over pizza, where students interacted more personally with the four guests. Department faculty were also present, including Justin D’Arms, who organized the event and served as panel moderator.
