Starting January 2024, the Department of Philosophy will initiate a new online speaker series, “Practical Philosophy.” This series, designed for Philosophy alumni and scholars in other fields, focuses on topics of broad societal interest, such as end of life decision making, factory farming, and freedom of speech. The speakers, all faculty experts at Ohio State, will give brief presentations before leading a discussion with audience members.
For Spring 2024 we will hold three online talks:
- Thursday, 1/18/2024 4pm-5pm: Algorithms and End of Life Decision-Making? (Prof. Dana Howard):
- Thursday, 2/29/2024 4pm-5pm: How Can we Promote Civil Discourse on Campus? (Prof. Piers Norris Turner)
- Thursday, 4/18/2024 4pm-5pm: How to Think about Consumers’ Ethical Relationships to Large-scale Wrongs (Prof. Tristram McPherson)
