How to pronounce my name:
My work aims to understand the nature of compulsivity primarily in terms of its phenomenology. Compulsive disorders (addiction, OCD, etc.) typically involve persistent and repetitive disturbances in the patient's senses of potentiality, time, selfhood, and their relationships with their surrounding environments. Furthermore, I contend that philosophers tend to over-emphasize the role of "irresistible" motivations when defining compulsivity.
I have secondary interests in aesthetics, especially the nature of inspiration and creativity.
The philosophers who are most important to me are Plato, Kant, and Heidegger.
Besides philosophy, I play viola with the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra and occasionally moonlight as a professional cheesemonger (please feel welcome to direct any cheese-related questions to me).
