1.4 Advisors
Students are initially assigned Advisors by the Director of Graduate Studies before beginning their first quarter of work. Before the Candidacy Examination, students may change Advisors by submitting a written request to the Director of Graduate Studies and obtaining the written consent of the director of the student's Candidacy Examination Committee, of the Qualifying Examination Committee, and of the Dissertation Committee - often, though not always, the same person - becomes, at the appropriate times, the student's Advisor of record.
