Graduate Students
1.2 Admissions Guidelines
Basic requirements for admission are established by the Graduate School; for a summary see either the Graduate School Handbook or Book 2 ("Graduate School") of The Ohio State University Bulletin. In recommending applicants to the Graduate School for admission, the Graduate Committee of the Department of Philosophy pays particular attention to the following:- The submitted paper.
- Letters of recommendation.
- Undergraduate grade record. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on the standard 4.0 scale) is the minimum required by the Graduate School for regular admission. However successful applicants for the Ph.D. program in philosophy typically have an average significantly above 3.0. An undergraduate major in philosophy is highly recommended but not a prerequisite for admission.
- Graduate grade record, if any (see sec.1.3 below).
- Graduate Record Examination scores.
